New Years Resolutions and new beginnings

There is something about this time of year.

My brother and I talked about it over Christmas.  He doesn’t like New Years because he sees it as simply another day.  Like somehow a ball dropping in New York City is going to magically change everything.  Really, he’s right.  It’s not.

But there is something magical about a new year isn’t there.  It’s a new beginning.  A tiny bud that has started to bloom into its own new beauty.  It will unfold magically.

new year beginnings

This mindset of new-ness, of fresh starts, is empowering.  It feels like a chance to rewrite ourselves and our circumstances.  You know what?  That feeling, that thought, holds great power if you harness it.

You see, you are that flower you were yesterday.  Slowly and steadily working yourself into full bloom.  And here’s the thing… you were as perfect yesterday as you are today.  Yup, I said it.  You are perfect.

You can resolve to change this year, to make new resolutions for yourself, but you are already awesome.  I know that because, like a flower, you were created that way.  A flower doesn’t resolve itself to bloom. A flower doesn’t resolve itself into a tree.  As the saying goes, a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.  You too, are already beautiful.

So each day, new year or not, hold onto that feeling, that power that drives you toward a resolution.  Hold onto that emotion that you desire most each and every moment of each and every day.  Soon that feeling will be yours to hold onto regardless of the obstacles in your way.  You will bloom into the flower you were meant to become.

Happy New Year!
