Today is going to be a day of mixed emotions.
Today is Thanksgiving in the United States. It’s a day to pause and reflect for all of the wonderful gifts, graces and blessings that have been bestowed upon us. This is something I try to do each day. After all, thankful is not just a day, it is an action. It is a state of mind.
Sad news came to our family yesterday and well, it’s hard to not let it place a darkness on the day. As I lay my grandmothers china on the table, with my great grandmothers linens, it is easy to let my mind wander to happy times, to big family times, to “the best” of times. Then I have to ask, how does that serve the here and now? How does that serve those here celebrating with me now? Does wondering what if and worrying about the future help me to see the joys in front of me? Nope. Not really.
I would be lying if I said that my heart didn’t hurt today but I also have to be honest and say that somehow that hurt has brought a new perspective, a deeper perspective about what it means to be thankful.
I am truly grateful for so many things.
My your day today and everyday be filled with the joy of a thankful heart.
Thanks for reading.
