Welcome to Craft-Create-Connect!

Yes... You CAN!

Hey all!

Thanks for taking the time to stop by my little corner of the internet.  I have had the idea for this site in my mind for quite some time now and as the end of the year approaches, I didn’t want to say,

“Oh well… maybe next year.”

No time like the present right?!

So what is craft-create-connect? It’s a place to come and be inspired as an artist, as a crafter, as a creative soul.  It is most importantly a place where you can begin to explore those things, even if you don’t fancy that you have a creative bone in your body!  I have heard it before and I have said it myself…  “Oh!  You could totally make that.  You are sooooo creative.”  Occasionally, I would turn it around (on a confident sort of day) and I would say…

“Ohhhh…. I would totally make that!”

and then realize I had no idea how to start or where to even begin.  So we are going to work to change both of those things!  I will explore and share and I want you to do the same!  I even promise to post my fails!  Seriously.  So many times we go comparing ourselves to people’s perfects when what they don’t tell you is that there were many, many fails before they got the perfect.  That’s part of the fun!  That is part of the exploring and that is part of the journey.  Without failure, success does not seem so sweet now does it. And of course we all know we need to at least try first!

The other thing you will notice is that as much as possible, I will be sharing ideas that you can do with your kiddos.  When I started painting again, I was joined by my daughter.  She genuinely wanted to work and to try.  Not fearing a mess, we did it together and she loved the process as much.  This has provided a nice connection in my house.  Creative time sometimes happens best alone but there is something about creating together and sharing.

So let’s do this!

  1. I can’t tell you how awesome I think this is because I don’t think there are the right words in the English language. I’ll see if I can’t find some Zazlandian words and get back to you. 🙂

  2. This blog is fantastic and I’ve only just discovered it! I am a crafter/beader/fairy gardener/noticer. I say noticer because I notice everything in the world around me and never take any of it for granted. Often I will look at something and ponder, “How could I use this item?” Even more specifically, “How could I turn this into art, or use it in crafts?” Our granddaughters spend a month with us every summer and we love to do arts and crafts together. Recently, I fell in love with alcohol inks and will be doing some projects with the girls using the ink on ceramic tiles. I want to try the inks on canvases, too, and wonder if I need to treat the canvases first. If so, with what? Our grands are 14 and 10 and ready for some more “serious” crafting as they are both quite creative. Any advice you are able to impart is highly appreciated!

    • Thanks for stopping by! Yes, you can use on canvas, but put a layer of clear gesso first or it will absorb right into the canvas. Not that that doesn’t work! You can also just cover it with white glue or mod podge for a tad smoother surface. Long story short, a treated canvas surface is not quite as smooth as say glossy papers, but still lots of fun! You just won’t get the same spread. You can try a layer of spritzed alcohol before adding the ink to get a bit more roll. Have fun!
